Projects, tasks and customers

The core concepts in TimeEd and how they fit together.

Three concepts form the foundation of TimeEd. Once you have them down, everything else is simple.

Customer

The company or individual the work is done for. Customers are registered in the Customers section with a contact person, address, phone number and email, and invoices are sent to them.

Project

A project is a collection of tasks and is usually linked to a customer. Examples: building a website for a specific company, or maintenance on a specific property. The project list is under Projects in the menu.

Task

The smallest unit: one well-defined piece of work you can log time on, e.g. "Replace the windows at Dúfnahólar 10". Each task automatically gets an ID like TWEB-120, where the prefix comes from the project and the number is sequential.

On a task you can:

  • log time with the time clock or manually
  • assign an employee
  • add labels (e.g. "High Priority", "Bug")
  • add products that go on the invoice
  • write comments and upload files
  • mark whether the task is billable

How it all fits together

Customer → project → tasks → logged time. Reports and invoices are then built on the logged time: you can summarize time by customer, project, employee or period, and create an invoice straight from the report.
